Thinx vs Modibodi – Which Period Underwear Is Better?

We tell you which one is best. Period.

OK, let’s talk period pants. What are they and which brand is best? Modibodi or Thinx?

Both Modibodi and Thinx have a range of underwear styles so they’re not just period pants. They have swimwear and briefs for incontinence too.

The great thing about both is they’re reducing the amount of landfill that comes with tampon and sanitarypad usage.

Thinx promote female wellness and leadership and have a zero waste goal for 2025. They employ sustainable practices and provide transportation and free meals for their factory staff in Sri Lanka.

Modibodi uses breathable fabrics including bamboo and merino wool which means you can rinse, dry and repeat with ease. They also have a ‘buy a pair’ feature where you purchase a voucher and Modibodi will donate two pairs of period pants to women in shelters across Australia.

Modibodi vs Thinx – are they really leakproof?

The burning question when it comes to period pants is – will they keep you dry or will they leak everywhere and leave you mortified?

In order to have the best experience you’ll need to buy the right period pants to suit the heaviness of your bleed.

But incase you aren’t aware, period knickers can be used on their own or as back up while using other menstrual aids.

Modibodi Hi-Waist for Heavy Flow

If your periods are heavy you might still need to wear a tampon or pad so know that period pants can only do so much.

However, for heavier flows, the Modibodi Sensual Hi-Waist Bikini (RRP $33.50) is designed for heavy, overnight absorbency.

Reviewers say:

Bought one pair to try and consider it the best purchase I’ve made this year. Amazing. No leaks. Easy care. Soft, thin feel. Perfect fit with the 3XL. Underwear lasts for 20-22 hours for me and even then, I feel like I could have worn them longer.”

The Thinx range also provides for varying flow. Thinx Hi-Waist (RRP $56.78) are said to hold the equivalent of 2 tampons.

Sizes range from XXS to 3XL and tend to come up slightly large.

The high waisted are my favourite style by far. They stay in place, give me the best coverage, and make me feel more put together on days when I feel like a hot mess. I normally have a pretty heavy flow so I do use them for my lighter days either at the beginning or end of my period.”

They come in 3 colours and a variety of sizes from Youth 8-10 through to Youth 14-16. (RRP $22.50)

Reviewers say:

Really comfortable really cute, I’m an XS in womens and got the 10-12 in girls, tiny bit small could probably go the 12-14 but I like how snug they fit and the designs are super adorable.”

Thinx offer all their leakproof pants in every size from XXS to 3XL so regardless of whether you’re shopping for yourself or your teenage daughter, you’ll find briefs to fit.

The price however is astronomical by comparison. Thinx boyshorts will set you back $58.27 – that’s roughly two Modibodi period briefs or 10 boxes of tampons. Which isn’t the point, I know, but hey, they’re costly.

Reviewers say:

“I originally ordered a size small, but had to size up. Thinx was very accommodating and sent me a new pair free of charge. They fit great now! No leaks ever and they work great with my menstrual cup.”

Still trying to decide between Modibodi vs Thinx?

Where Modibodi win on price, Thinx take the cup for style. Their Cheeky period briefs (RRP $44.83) come in beige, dusk, leopard print or black and look pretty snazzy.

Just watch out for sizing – you may need to order one size up.

Reviwers say:

I can wear these comfortably on my lighter days. The sizing chart helped with choosing my size. Based on it I’m a Large but I might order up for the next purchase. Slowly transitioning to reusable and ditching disposables. Thinx helps alot with this transition.”

Modibodi are more cost effective and donate period pants to Australian women in need. Thinx are a little more ‘fancy’ but you pay a price for that: they also run women’s programs.

There are plenty of positive and negative reviews of both Modibodi and Thinx online but the only real way to find out which ones are best for you is to try them out yourself!
